Mentors
“Run, jog, walk. Whatever it takes to help students cross the finish line.” Dreamfar welcomes teens with diverse backgrounds and abilities and mentors who help support them. Whether this is your first season with us or your 18th, we are happy to have you be a part of our team!
New & Returning Mentors
Dreamfar mentors run alongside youth and help them train for and complete the Newport Marathon or Half Marathon by providing companionship, motivation, and support. Mentors run as part of the whole team, but are specifically matched in "running families" consisting of 4-6 mentors and 8-12 students. No prior running experience is required to volunteer for this program however mentors must be committed to training alongside their mentee(s).
Requirements and Responsibilities
Commitment to one full Dreamfar season (November-mid/late April)
Attend 80% of the Saturday training runs
Must be at least 20 years old
Ability to communicate openly and effectively
Empower student mentees through intentional goal setting, holistic physical wellness, and meaningful engagement in Saturday programming. Foster authentic connections and a sense of belonging across mentors and mentees, while cultivating the skills and confidence essential for lifelong self-efficacy

Additional Responsibilities
Commit to a full Dreamfar season (August to May)
Recruit students to participate in the program and assist in their development with the program
Supervise three weekday runs per week
Oversee students' distance running practices including creating training routes, securing meeting locations, and managing attendance.
You’ll need to be minimally tech savvy but we can teach you!
Uphold Dreamfar policies including proper precautions relating to safety and behavior
Attend school site mentor meetings, practices, and race events
Communicate program information with mentees, parents and caregivers, and school administration
Maintain contact with Dreamfar staff, including checking and responding to email regularly
