Dreamfar High School Marathon (DHSM) is New England’s first high school marathon training program. We are a Greater Boston-based program that teaches high school students that anything is possible, even completing a marathon. With hard work, perseverance and guidance from dedicated mentors, our runners realize their potential as they train for the Providence Marathon.

Think about some of the most challenging barriers that you face on an everyday basis. Now think about the demands of running 26.2 miles. After training with the Marathon Team, I now look at my challenges and dreams in a new way; nothing seems quite so impossible. The Dreamfar program is in some ways a metaphor for how to be successful in life- when faced with a challenge, break it down into smaller steps. Keep at it and nothing can stop you! We didn't just run a mile one week and lace up for the marathon the next. The Marathon Team showed me that putting time, effort, and heart into a goal will help you achieve anything; impossible is nothing.

I saw students who were completely withdrawn come of their shells and make social contacts and relationships that they never would have before. And they were more open-minded to different peer groups. I saw kids doing better in school, coming to school more often because they wanted to be part of the team, they wanted to run.

Dreamfar to me has been a life changing experience. I learned more about myself in 6 months of training then I did in my 4 years of high school. I found confidence in the way I look and feel for the first time in my life. I saw how it felt to push yourself to the max. I also now know what it feels like to really accomplish something that you worked so hard for. Thanks to Dreamfar I finally am happy with where I am in life.
