Students from six Massachusetts high schools took to the streets together on Saturday, December 10th for the first of many long weekend runs

Students from Charlestown High, Brookline High, Newton North and South, Sharon High and Urban Science Academy along with their school leaders, community mentors and many DHSM volunteers all met at Brookline High early Saturday morning to kick off the 2011-2012 season.

The weather was glorious and the team was excited to be together. The morning began with some pump-up Disco music (yes, at 8:00am), formal registration, introductions, Rock, Paper, Scissors, CHEER!, and a review of the course. The team then headed out to enjoy a couple of loops around Jamaica Pond for the first group run of the season.

One by one, the team gathered together back at Brookline High to wait for everyone to finish. Post run food was generously donated by Whole Foods, Stoneyfield Yogurt, and When Pigs Fly bakery. One of the cool things about our program is that we do not worry about runners’ finishing times only that everyone completes the run. The entire team waits until the last runner comes back before going home, staying true to the DHSM motto: We Finish What We Start – 26.2 TOGETHER!
